>Cartouche was the nickname of Louis Dominique Bourguignon (1693–1721), a highwayman who terrorized the roads around Paris during the Régence. A movie also named Cartouche (film) was made about him in 1962. A cartouche, in Egyptian hieroglyphs, is an oblong enclosure with a vertical line at one end, indicating that the text enclosed is a royal name, coming into use during the beginning of the Fourth Dynasty with pharao Sneferu.
