uar (Panthera onca) is a large member of the cat family native to warm regions of the Americas. It is closely related to the lion, tiger, and leopard of the Old World, and is the largest species of the cat family found in the Americas. Jaguars vary from 1.5 to 2.7 m (5 to 9 feet) in length, stand around 90 cm (3 feet) tall at the shoulder, and weigh between 56 and 160 (125 and 350 lb) with large individuals weighing nearly 180 kg (400 pounds). The jaguar has the strongest jaw structure of any feline and second strongest jaw structure of any land carnivore. Captive jaguars have been documented putting 6 cm (1/4 inch) dents into bowling balls using their teeth. The jaguar, though not the largest feline, is the most powerful member of the cat family.
